Thankful Thursday – The Education of a Lifetime

Even though the beginning of a new school year can be a little daunting, I can’t help but appreciate the education I am lucky enough to receive. I feel so blessed to be able to go to the school I go to and to actually do well at it. A lot of people go to school and party, but that just isn’t me. Seriously, I have a decorating/craft blog! I just cannot see myself wasting something so beneficial and something I am so lucky to receive. Sure, I’m going to be paying for it for a long time, but even if I don’t land a job right away with our economy the way it is, I will never regret it because it has been a life-changing experience. I have learned so much already, not even just about academic things, but about life. I have taken philosophy courses about what it means to be a human person and about ethics. These will benefit me and my understanding of the world and people around me more than most classes one takes in college. I also took a class on Christian marriage, as well as two other theology courses. I feel so much more prepared for marriage, but know that I also am not ready for that yet. I know a lot about psychology, music, Spanish, English, family-related topics, history, math, science, and so much more! I am supremely lucky to have these resources available to me that have already made a huge impact on my life.

But even if I wasn’t in school, I still would have so many learning opportunities around me to learn from. There are mentors, friends, family, the media, books, art, and everything you could possibly imagine out there to learn from. There is never a time when a person will run out of things to learn about. How lucky are we, as humans, to have the ability to learn in such a way that no other creature can? We are able to reflect on our past, think about our future, and plan so many wonderful things because of our minds. How could a person not be grateful? I know that it’s possible, because there are many around me that do not take advantage of all the wonderful learning opportunities constantly landing in their laps, but I hope that in my life, as a future teacher, I can make up for those people who don’t appreciate their educations and learning abilities by passing on my knowledge and hard work to others. I cannot think of anything more rewarding than that. So, please, be grateful for your mind and the educational resources around you, and try to pass on as much knowledge as you can because learning is not one-sided. I feel to be truly educated you need to not only learn yourself but teach others to as well, because that in itself is a learning experience.

What are you thankful for today?

  • Right now, I’m thankful that it’s almost time to go to bed!! ;-) I’ve been so busy getting ready for a trip the last couple of days, I’ve hardly had any time to sit down and relax. Hmmmmm… actually, I guess what I’m really most thankful for is being able to spend a weekend away with my hubby to celebrate our 8th anniversary :-)

I’d definitely smile every time I came home if I lived in a house on Jelly Bean Row :-)

School is definitely worth the investment and it is a time in your life you will always remember. You will never have the freedom to learn in the same way ever again. Too bad so many students don’t make the most of this freedom. I am thankful for my home, family, work, and God.

God has given you such a great talent for learning Sarah, honestly, not many kids have that talent or desire. You are doing such a great job of using your money for school, in a wise manor. Congratulations!!! This was a great post, I can tell that you will be a fabulous teacher. Taking to heart what you learn is the first step to success, in anything. I wish that we would have gone to college. I am thankful for the Jesus, who guides my every step in life. I am so thankful for my husband, children, grandchildren, my mom, family and friends. We are such a blessed country. In Christs love, Donita
