The past couple of years I have wanted to use my red hair as an advantage when dressing up for Halloween. I figure I could easily be any redhead character for Halloween and would not need to buy a wig. I have come up with a list of the cutest ideas I think for redheads to dress up as, or for anyone to dress up as if they want to pretend to be a redhead for Halloween. I can’t really justify paying very much for a Halloween costume and since my sewing machine doesn’t have all the parts it needs to work and my closet does not have very many options that are good enough be be recreated into a costume, I either have to buy a costume or buy some used clothes to create my own costume.
Here are my favorite ideas (not all of them are specifically for redheads, but would make a good costume with red hair). Click on the image to go to the website the costume is for sale.
Jane Jetson
Strawberry Shortcake
Little Red Riding Hood
Wilma Flinstone
Lucille Ball
Candy Factory Lucille Ball
Polka-Dot Sock Hop Girl
Polka-Dot 50’s Girl
Hippi
Devil
Green Witch/Fairy (if got rid of the hat and added wings)
Most of these are pretty generic, but a lot of them could be created by buying used clothes. I am pretty modest and do not like the “sexy” Halloween costumes that everyone my age seems to buy. My favorites from this bunch are Lucille Ball and Jane Jetson. Last year I had planned on going as Lucille Ball and found the perfect blue polka-dotted dress used, but it was too big (with a dress that cute I wanted to be able to rewear it) and it was still just as expensive as buying a costume. This year, I found a kids size Jane Jetson for only $9.99 and because I’m short, I actually think the large would fit. I think I’ll go with that, although I don’t know if I’m doing anything for Halloween this year because I’m going home for midterm break. Either way, it’s pretty cheap, so I probably can’t lose.
What’s your favorite? Any other ideas that would work? Are you dressing up, if so – as who/what? If not, what was your favorite costume you have ever worn?

No Raggedy Ann? That’s what my daughter is going to be this year. Love Lucille Ball and Jane Jetson – great memories renewed!

I love the Jane Jetson look! I was actually thinking of that for myself, but didn’t have a clue how to pull it off. Instead I’m going out with a group of people dressed as spartans. Should be fun! But I’m with you…how come all girl costumes are so revealing?! So frustrating!

I like most of the costumes you picked out. The one that came to mind to me was one of my favorite characters when I was a very young girl Pippy Longstockings. I always thought she was so cool!
I think there were a few red headed queens and historical women also. Since red hair was so rare considered a real beauty!
