Dreaming Of: A Blank Slate Attic

In my dream house there is a third floor attic waiting to be completed – full of possibility.  What would you do with the extra space?

A master bedroom?

A bedroom for kids or visitors?

An “everything” room for napping, playing, working, etc?

An art gallery?

A man cave?

I think I would go with an everything room that focuses most on the office/craft room portion.  It would be so hard to choose, though!

Sorry about all the inspiration photo posts – I am swamped with stuff from school and don’t have the time to do anything crafty (much less the money to buy crafty things) or decorating-related.  Still cooking away though!

Have a great day!

  • Hm, I think I would either use it as a Master Bedroom or an Art Studio, if we had an unfinished attic. When we were house shopping, we toured a house (we almost bought it) that had a finished attic turned into a master bedroom. It was very cool, big, even had a window seat. However, there was no bathroom up there, and the stairs to get up there were incredibly steep. So it was a no-go. Very cool, with tons of charm and character, though. Love all the inspiration pics – especially the last ones!

  • You found some awesome photos! We have an attic room, and we initially set it up as a master bedroom. It’s small, much like the 3rd photo you posted (yellow room from Apartment Therapy). But since our house is old and not insulated very well, this room is particularly cold in winter and super hot in summer. We moved our master bedroom downstairs, and now I have plans to convert this space into an art and music studio area. I’m still working out some of the design kinks since there are a lot of unusual built-ins that we have to work around. I will post an update on my blog soon so that I can get some more opinions and help. Thanks for all the inspiration photos though!

    Kristi,

That’s such a good idea to turn it into an art/music studio! It’s too bad that it is not insulated very well up there, but I’m glad you are still going to put the space to use. I can’t wait to see more updates about it!

  • A little secret get away would be divine…something like the picture that you have that says unknown…oh to dream
    thanks for sharing.

  • Love the inspiration photos. And I particularly like having a little guest bedroom up in an attic like that — especially if you’re not going to have guests who struggle with the stairs. I’m crazy about rooms with matching twin beds. They’re so cute!

  • I love the idea of a family game room or home theater. Those pictures are wonderful! (I love martha’s craft room!)

  • We have a bonus room with angled walls like these that we are about to turn into my studio, so I really enjoyed checking these out for inspiration. Thanks for sharing!

  • I have always loved attic spaces. I would love to have even a tiny one to make my own.
