After just two days of selling my used things at our garage sale, I have learned a ton that I want to pass on to all of you.
FACTS:
Get your change early.
People will come early.
Garage sales are emotional – A family told us how they just moved here from Mexico, one man explained that he only has 2-4 months to live due to a brain tumor, and the woman who used to own my friend’s house showed up in tears and told us how she used to hold a garage sale with her late husband every year. I definitely was no prepared for any of that.
People seem to come and go in groups, even when they are not together. When you see one person walk up, be prepared for a dozen others.
Having some form of entertainment close by during the lapses of time when nobody stops by your sale will make time go faster.
Something unexpected will happen and you will need to think on your toes.
People are not always as honest as you would like to think. One group that came in asked about our unmarked

Earlier this week, I mentioned that I will be holding a garage sale. Back in January, I posted about the vacation a couple friends of mine and I are taking. Well, in order to go on vacation a person needs money, so we decided to hold a garage sale! Not only was it the perfect time because of the trip, but it was also perfect to sell all of my old things I no longer need before I move into my studio apartment in the fall.
The first thing you will realize when preparing for a garage sale is that you have a lot of stuff. Maybe it’s just me, but I have so much I didn’t even realize. When you see it all together in one big pile, it is overwhelming and even a bit disgusting. I have vowed to not buy anything for the rest of the year because I have everything I could ever need and more. Stay tuned for more on that…
Because I think garage sales are becoming more common with the recession and because I know most of my readers are like me and love thrifty things, I thought it might be useful to document

One thing I’ve learned during the lifelong analysis I’ve done of my own life is that I have learned how not to do a lot of things. I’ve made many mistakes, I’ve seen others make many mistakes, and I have tried to learn from them. One thing I have not learned from, however, is moving. I have moved so many times in the past four years that one would think I would have it down by now. I moved from my parent’s old house to a trailer while we were finishing our new house during my senior year of high school. Following my graduation, we moved from the trailer to the new house. Three months later, I moved to college for the first time. I then moved home for January and back up for spring semester and back down for summer. I repeated that process for two more years and now I am back during my junior year packing to go home for my last summer before my senior year. I should have it down, right?
WRONG!
I have come up with four steps for how not to move so maybe you can take something from this. If I’m going to be

….Or “Six tips for arranging your accessories and book on a bookcase.”
If you haven’t read the first two parts yet, please read about the initial bookcase dilemma and the real problem with the room. Today is the big, okay well it’s not very big, so I will refer to it as a modest reveal. After moving the bookcase between the two doors and playing around with the displays, I think I had it down. I wanted everything to be very personal but to also reflect the room.
Let’s see how I did. Here’s where it initially started before I tried to revamp it the first time.
Here it is after the failed revamp.
Here is the finished bookcase in all its chocolate brown glory.
What do you think? Any commenters from yesterday still think it needs some contrasting element in the back? The only thing

While the year turned from 2009 to 2010, a couple of friends and I thought about plans for the new year. We are all poor college students who work our butts off but still have little to show for it at the end of the month. Despite our meager funds, we have decided to plan a road trip for the summer most likely to Eugene, Oregon because we have a friend who lives there who might lend their home for us to stay at.
One of my friends and I have never seen the ocean, so that is a definite must while we are on our trip. It will take a little over a day to drive there and then we plan on staying for about three days. In order to make the most of our money we plan on packing lots of food and only buying three meals at restaurant prices while we are there. Most of our money will be sent on entertainment, which we plan on saving on as well, and gas money, as well as lodging if we are not able to
